PHILLIPSBURG | A 17-year old student at
Phillipsburg High School was arrested Tuesday after police
said he used a pay phone to report a bomb at the
school.
Police said the teen called 911 at 9:48
a.m. from a pay phone in the 100 block of Heckman Street.
Officers spotted him leaving the area of the
phone.
The school was not evacuated,
Phillipsburg police Sgt. James Faulborn said.
"We determined the individual's threat
was not real," Falbourn said.
School officials could not be reached for
comment.
Police charged the teen with making a
false public alarm. Authorities held him at the Warren Acres
detention center, pending a juvenile hearing.
In November a "suspicious package"
discovered behind a door prompted the evacuation
Phillipsburg High School.
State police determined the package was
an unattended bowling bag with a broken strap.
In 2004 a number of bomb scares prompted
evacuations of an elementary school, Phillipsburg Middle
School, the high school and the alternative high
school.
Four bomb threats caused the evacuation
of the middle and high schools over a one-week period in
mid-April.
Another string of threats from late
September to early October emptied the Green Street School,
the middle school and the high school.
