PHILLIPSBURG | The Phillipsburg Education Association proposed three January meeting dates to the school board Monday as the teachers working under an expired contract push to re-start negotiations.

Education association President Barbara Alderfer proposed the school board negotiate with teachers Jan. 10, Jan. 17 or Jan. 30 in the presence of a mediator.

"We are anxious to get going. We want to get working on this (a new contract) and get this settled," Alderfer told the school board. More than 100 teachers were at the meeting.

The board did not commit to a meeting date but board member Salvatore Patti said he favored expediting negotiations. The school board and teachers, whose contract expired in June 2005, reached an impasse in negotiations Sept. 19. Alderfer said the sides have not met since.
